1: Usually rednecks in this State vote for the conservative candidate. But this year it's hard to predict because they're getting hurt by the slowdown in the economy. 2: I met Bill's uncle that day at the party. He seems to be a typical redneck. He talked so loud and insulted the blacks all the time. I'm very surprised, he has nothing in common with Bill. McCarthyite. 3: You may see a McCarthyite in either party. Often he makes false charges against the other side simply to hide the fact that he has such a weak record of his own to sell the voters. 4: My opponents accuse me of stealing public funds and accepting bribes when I was a cabinet member. None of these is true. They behave like true McCarthyites and the American people will not tolerate that. /200711/21220小组会议 Group Meeting预定会议室 book/ reserve a conference roomA: Jennifer, could you book us a conference room?B: What time?A: 1:00 to 3:00 tomorrow afternoon.B: You are all set.会议通知 call for meeting notification of meetingA: Have you received the call for meeting?B: Not yet.I thought there would be no meeting today.日程安排 calendar event register of eventsA: The best way to notify a meeting is to set it up as a calendar event.B: I know. But people are used to the phone notification or email.错过会议 miss the meetingA: Once people get used to the calendar, they will see how convenient it is. So we have to scrape the bottom of the barrel and end up hiring secretaries who cant type or spell. 从这儿可见scrape the bottom of the barrel含义是出于无奈,只得滥竽充数将就将就。我们要学的下一个习惯用语是:have somebody over a barrel。Have somebody over a barrel这个习惯用语从表面上看,意思是把某人放在大桶上。 例句-2:I really dont want to work during summer vacation; Id rather relax myself at home. But Dad has me over a barrel: if I dont take a job he wont pay my tuition to go to college. 例句-3:The car ran only one mile when it broke down again. I was so mad I went back to the mechanic, gave him both barrels, and made him agree to fix the trouble free.

Blabbermouth。 LL: So, Li Hua, I have some news I'd like to share with you, but I'd like you to keep it hush-hush. LH: Hush-hush? LL: Something that is hush-hush means private and secret. It is something you don't want other people to know about. LL: I got a new job! LH: Wow! LL: Well, I am excited about it, and I do want to tell everyone, but my new job won't start for several months. I want to keep it hush-hush until I'm y to tell people at my current job. LL: About two months. Then I'll tell my boss and co-workers, and you won't have to keep my news hush-hush any more. It is all very hush-hush. LL: What's that? LL: If it is so hush-hush, how do you know about it? LL: Hmm, a hush-hush organization. Is she applying to become a secret agent? LL: Oh, I know. I'm just curious. Sometimes it is hard to keep things hush-hush. Like the fact that my friend Dave is dating your friend Mary. LH: Dave 和Mary? LL: Dave asked me to keep it hush-hush for a while, because he wanted to be sure that Mary liked him and that it wasn't a one-time thing. ****** LL: I thought about telling you, Li Hua. But I didn't want to be a blabbermouth. LL: Wow, you are *good*, Li Hua. A blabbermouth is someone who blabbers; they talk, talk, talk and can't keep a secret. You are not a blabbermouth。 LL: Thanks, Li Hua. Dave and Mary have been dating for several weeks, and he told me I could tell you and our other friends now. LL: Jennifer is a blabbermouth? What do you mean? LL: Have you ever said anything about it to her? Don't be such a blabbermouth! LL: Well, then I'll remember the next time I have something I want to keep hush-hush: Don't tell Jennifer the blabbermouth! /200810/51523

ELIZA: This place is great. I'm surprised they have so much.JANE: Yes, but it takes a while to find things. It's not organized as carefully as a regular store.ELIZA: I never shopped in an outlet before. We don't have any in my hometown. Why do they call it an "outlet"?JANE: Sometimes a clothes company makes too many of one item. They can't sell it all in their regular stores. So they send the overstock to an outlet. That's why they call it an "outlet".It's a store that "let's out" products the company can't sell in regular stores. ELIZA: And they have faulty products here too.JANE: Yes. A "faulty product" may be a shirt that has some problem.Or a pair of pants that is ripped a little.Sometimes the fault is very small. So it's a good deal to buy it.Sometimes, if you have a needle and th, you can fix it yourself.ELIZA: I like to sew, so that's easy for me.I think it's a really good deal. Some of these shirts have only one tiny mistake on them.JANE: I know.So it's a good idea to shop in an outlet sometimes. You can save a lot of money.ELIZA: That's great for me.Now that Steve and I have the baby, we want to save as much as we can.CASHIER: Cash or credit, Ma'am?ELIZA: Credit.JANE: Wow!
