Nemean was the son of giant Typhon and monster of a snake. When people and monsters loved each other, Nemean would fall from Moon, which was a gift to them. Nemean was half-human, half-monster. In the daytime, he was a fierce lion with golden fur, and by night he was a young boy with golden hair and blue eyes. The sister of Nemean was Hydra who was also a monster of a snake with nine heads. Her upper body was like girl, pretty and charming, but the other half of her body was like a snake. Nemean loved Hydra since he was a child. Although they had same parents, Nemean fell from heaven while Hydra was born from their mother. Unfortunately, the hero Hercules accepted 10 tasks from the King, including killing Nemean and Hydra. Nemean refused to fight with Hercules but to protect his beloved, Nemean decided to beat Hercules. Nemean comforted Hydra saying, “Nobody can kill me except you.” /201108/150705Speedy eaters seen likelier to get fatPeople who eat quickly until full are three times more likely to be overweight, a problem exacerbated by the availability of fast food and the decline of orderly dining habits, Japanese researchers said on Wednesday. The findings, published in the British Medical Journal, highlight how eating styles, and not just what or how much is eaten, can contribute to an obesity epidemic fueled by the sp of Western-style affluence in many parts of the world. The World Health Organization classifies around 400 million people as obese, 20 million of them under the age of five. The condition raises the risk of diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart problems. For their study, Hiroyasu Iso and colleagues at Osaka University asked more than 3,000 Japanese volunteers aged 30 to 69 about their eating. About half of the men and a little more than half of the women said they ate until full. About 45 percent of the men and 36 percent of the women said they ate quickly. Those who said they ate until full and ate quickly were three times more likely to be fat than people in the "not eating until full and not eating quickly" group, the researchers found. They cited as causes both the availability of cheap food in big portions and habits like watching television while eating. To counteract the "supra-additive effect" of speedy or glut eating among children prone to obesity, parents should encourage them to eat slowly and in calm surroundings, the study found. /200810/53816The vocabulary of babies who are bilingual remains flexible as they grow up and boosts their speaking ability as toddlers, a university study has found. Babies and children have a great ability to learn a second language but that begins to fade as early as their first birthdays. Now researchers at the University of Washington's Institute for Learning amp;Brain Sciences are investigating the brain mechanisms that contribute to infants' prowessat learning languages, with the hope that the findings could boost bilingualism in adults, too. In the research, the scientists report that the brains of babies raised in bilingual households show a longer period of being flexible to different languages, especially if they hear a lot of language at home. The researchers also show that the relative amount of each language - English and Spanish - babies were exposed to affected their vocabulary as toddlers. The study, published in Journal of Phonetics, is the first to measure brain activity throughout infancy and relate it to language exposure and speaking ability. 'The bilingual brain is fascinating because it reflects humans' abilities for flexible thinking - bilingual babies learn that objects and events in the world have two names, and flexibly switch between these labels, giving the brain lots of good exercise,' said Patricia Kuhl, co-author of the study and co-director of the UW's Institute for Learning amp;Brain Sciences. Kuhl's previous studies show that between 8 and 10 months of age, monolingual babies become increasingly able to distinguish speech sounds of their native language, while at the same time their ability to distinguish sounds from a foreign language declines. For instance, between 8 and 10 months of age babies exposed to English become better at detecting the difference between 'r' and 'l' sounds, which are prevalentin the English language. This is the same age when Japanese babies, who are not exposed to as many 'r' and 'l' sounds, decline in their ability to detect them. /201108/151830Working long hours can greatly increase the risk of suffering injury or illness, a study says. Workers who do overtime were 61% more likely to become hurt or ill, once factors such as age and gender were taken into account. 61%。And working more than 12 hours a day raised the risk by more than a third, the University of Massachusetts found. Report co-author Allard Dembe said risk was not necessarily associated with how hazardous the job was. The results of this study suggest that jobs with long working hours are not more risky merely because they are concentrated in inherently hazardous industries or occupations."“这项研究的结果显示,长时间的工作之所以风险更大并不仅仅因为这类工作所在的行业或职业本身有危险。”And he said the findings, published in the Occupational and Environmental Health journal, supported initiative such as the 48-hour European Working Time Directive to cut the number of working hours. From the records, researchers found 5,139 work-related injuries and illnesses, ranging from stress to cuts, burns and muscle injuries. More than half of these injuries and illnesses occurred in jobs with extended working hours or overtime. The researchers concluded that the more hours worked, the greater the risk of injury. But they did not find that lengthy commutes to and from work had any impact on illness and injury. In the UK 14% of the working population--3.6m--work more than 48 hours a week.

First lady Michelle Obama is Vogue cover modelIt's official: Michelle Obama is the first lady of American fashion, appearing on the cover of the March issue of Vogue.Every first lady since Lou Hoover - save Bess Truman - has been featured in the high-fashion magazine, but Mrs. Obama is only the second to grace the cover. She appears wearing a magenta silk sheath dress by Jason Wu, who also designed her inaugural gown.Vogue's editor at large Andre Leon Talley called his interviews with Mrs. Obama ahead of US President Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony "one of the best experiences of my life.""She's so accessible, natural and normal. There's nothing affected about her," he said.Much of the eight-page feature inside is devoted to Mrs. Obama's self-described role as "mom in chief" to 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha."I'm going to try to take them to school every morning, as much as I can," she said. "But there's also a measure of independence. And obviously there will be times I won't be able to drop them off at all. I like to be a presence in my kids' school. I want to know the teachers; I want to know the other parents."Being Vogue, though, the conversation eventually turns to clothes.Mrs. Obama said she is aware of how her wardrobe is being scrutinized, but she makes no apologies for her choices - even the Election Night combination of ripped-from-the-runway, fashion-forward dress and plain-Jane cardigan."I'm not going to pretend that I don't care about it," she said. "But I also have to be very practical. In the end, someone will always not like what you wear — people just have different tastes."She did choose outfits for the Vogue photos from labels she has worn before: Wu, who made her inaugural gown; Narcisco Rodriguez, the designer of that Election Night dress; and J. Crew, which she and her children have famously worn. Most cover models have their clothes chosen for them by Vogue, or at least editors work as advisers. Not this time."She doesn't need any help. She loves fashion and knows what works for her," Talley said. "She's never had a conversation with me about, `What do you think?' or `How did this look?' And I'm glad for that." /200902/62258

Forty is a mysterious number that appears frequently in the Bible. The rain of the flood fell forty days, and another forty days passed before Noah opened the window of the ark; Moses was in the mount for forty days; Elijah was fed by ravens for forty days; Nineveh had forty days to repent; Jesus fasted forty days; he was seen forty days after his resurrection.40也可算是圣经里的神秘数字。 /200907/76265
