1. Ask For PraiseExpecting your partner to notice things without prompting is often very unfair and can lead to resentment. Keep the beast away by speaking up and bringing attention to things you’d like your partner to notice. If you’ve done something you’d like your partner to take notice of, say something! Got your hair did? Say something! Fixed the dining room table so it doesn’t teeter? Say something! You did this instinctively when you were a child. Remember running up to a parent or guardian and asking them to look at a picture you’d colored or cape you’d made out of an expensive tablecloth? For most of us, the response was one of amazement (if a bit contrived) and vocal appreciation for our obvious talents. You’re not so very different now. You still love to be praised when you’ve done well. Even if it’s something you should have done earlier in the week or missed a detail on. How to get that praise? Ask for it and agree to give it when your partner asks you for some appreciation. You know not to crush a child’s spirit by ignoring their efforts to impress you. Are you as smart about your partner?1. /201003/99588。

I sometimes seem to gain about 10 pounds during the day. Is it water retention?Q: I weigh myself both in the morning and again at night. In the morning I'm around 193 pounds, but in the evening, my weight sometimes hikes up to 204 pounds. I use the same scale and weigh in the nude, so I feel like my ings are accurate. My friend says that I have a water-retention problem. What can I do to treat this?A: It's normal for body weight to fluctuate widely throughout the day. It's likely that your weight in the morning, and especially after you've used the bathroom, is at its lowest since you have probably not consumed any food or water for the past 12 or so hours. How much and what kind of food and fluids you've consumed, as well as how much and how often you've evacuated, and even how much you have sweated all play a role in the pounds that register on the scale at any given point during the day.Be careful not to mistake the increased scale weight as a conclusive sign that you are gaining or losing weight because going by pounds alone can often be misleading. While most people cite one number as their current body weight, it may be more realistic to cite a range, since the number does fluctuate daily. Most weight-loss programs advise to weigh at the same time of the day to try to minimize this variation. But still, if you were to weigh yourself every two or three hours you are likely get a whole range of weights, and here's why:You can even sit in a sauna and sweat off five pounds, but that doesn't mean that you've lost five pounds of body fat. In fact, you'll gain that 'weight' right back after you replenish the fluids you sweated out. Water is retained and lost throughout the day and while it may be contributing to your varying ings, these fluctuations are most likely normal, and not necessarily the problem that your friend suggests. (If you have signs of bloating, check with your physician, however.)If you eat a meal that consists of lots of plant foods like beans, grains, veggies and fruit, the food might weigh quite a lot because of all the fiber and water in it. On the other hand, you could eat the exact same amount of calories in the form of processed high-carb or high-fat foods and since this food is very condensed (much of the fiber and water is processed out of it), it's very light. If you ate the more healthful food you might take in a couple of pounds of actual food that would actually make you seem heavier if you weighed yourself after eating it. The processed item such as a fluffy, light croissant may not register as much extra scale weight at all even though it's very high in calories. So does the heavier-weighing food make you fatter? Not at all. Here's why: The body gains weight from accumulating more stored body fat by eating more calories than are expended over time. (You can also gain more weight for other reasons such as increased muscle, but you would need to be doing progressive, heavy resistance training and eating more calories over time.)When you eat a large meal, and if it's an unprocessed, plant-based meal, it's likely to be lower in calories, even if it has greater volume. Check out this comparison from the book Picture Perfect Weight Loss (Grand Central Publishing, 2003) by chiropractor Howard Shapiro. One small muffin is around 720 calories, and a huge platter consisting of an entire pineapple (that weighs several pounds), half a melon, half a papaya, plus two pears, some grapes, kiwi and two small whole-wheat rolls are also 720 calories. Not only would it would be nearly impossible to eat the healthful meal at once (who can eat an entire pineapple without feeling stuffed?), if you managed to even eat half of this, you would have ingested a pound or two of food, compared to a few ounces by eating the muffin. So after eating this plant-based meal, you would temporarily weigh more while the food is going through your digestive system. That doesn't mean you are heavier, though, because it's the caloric load that ultimately leads to excess body fat. In reality you might only be able to eat about 400 or 500 calories worth of this healthful meal, even though you ate much more in terms of volume of food. Most of the fiber and water in the plant-based meal is calorie-free and would be excreted out, NOT turned into extra body fat.Another example in the book compares two 400-calorie options: a high-fat choice such as three small ribs or one egg roll, or a large meal consisting of brown rice, vegetable soup, a fortune cookie and Chinese-style broccoli and shrimp.Chances are that you'd not feel full eating only one egg roll or a few ribs. One could easily eat double, triple (or more!) than the 400-calorie serving shown to make a meal. So you could easily take in 800 to 1,600 calories at one sitting choosing the high-fat options. In comparison, it might be difficult to eat the entire healthful meal shown. But even if you did, it would consist of only 400 calories. So you'd feel satiated, but you still be dieting because you are controlling your caloric intake with these plant-based foods that are high in both fiber and water. The major point to keep in mind is that, while weight is important, it is not a total reflection of your body composition such as the amount of body fat and/or muscle that you have. When losing large amounts of weight, the scale is a useful tool to gauge the change. But avoid getting too nit-picky with daily ings, and look for trends over time. If you have access, try getting your body composition measured, either through a DEXA scan at your doctor's office, or by using body fat calipers by an experienced trainer at your gym. An underwater weighing tank in the exercise physiology department at a local university is another option (some gyms occasionally offer measurements taken in portable tanks). It's also important if you are losing weight to make sure to include some resistance training in your routine so that you can minimize the amount of muscle loss that inevitably accompanies weight loss. /200812/59853。

They should be in the prime of their lives. But instead, those in their twenties and thirties are in worse health than their parents, a British survey has found.Binge drinking, y meals and a lack of exercise all take their toll.As a result, the young are more likely to have migraines, catch a cold or become stressed than the over-55s.According to the research, those aged between 18 and 34 are three times more likely to have a cold or flu than the older generation.Nearly a quarter of the young regularly have headaches or migraines, compared to just 14 per cent of over-55s.And they are almost twice as likely to have high stress levels. The elderly also tend to eat more healthily. More than four in ten eat five or more portions of fruit or vegetables a day, double the number of young men and women. And when it comes to alcohol, 20 per cent of the over-55s don't indulge, while just 10 per cent of those aged 18-34 abstain.Six in ten of the elderly make fresh meals every day, compared to less than a third of the young. And while three-quarters of over-55s say they eat a balanced diet, just half of the younger generation does so.Less than a third of them regularly cook with fresh ingredients, compared to almost two-thirds of the older people. What is more, almost 10 per cent of them admit to eating y meals for every meal - and two per cent say they only eat at restaurants. The older generation is also more likely to take a healthy amount of exercise, with 12 per cent spending at least 30 minutes doing so each day. They may appear fitter, but only nine per cent of the young do that.Over-55s also try hardest to have at least six hours' sleep and plenty of fresh air, according to research done in the UK for fruit brand Florida Grapefruit.Chris Steele, the resident doctor on ITV's This Morning programme, said: "I have seen a rise in young people suffering from illnesses such as colds, flu and headaches."Long working hours, high stress levels and lack of exercise lead to people getting run-down and ill. /200803/30961。

The B iPlayer enables viewers to watch their favourite shows on their computersOne of the founding fathers of the internet has predicted the end of traditional television.Vint Cerf, who helped to build the internet while working as a researcher in America, said that television was approaching its "iPod moment"In the same way that people now download their favourite music onto their iPod, he said that viewers would soon be downloading most of favourite programmes onto their computers."85 per cent of all we watch is pre-recorded, so you can set your system to download it all the time," said Mr Cerf, who is now the vice-president of the Google, the world's largest search engine."You're still going to need live television for certain things - like news, sporting events and emergencies - but increasingly it is going to be almost like the iPod, where you download content to look at later."Although television on demand has not yet become a mainstream activity in the UK, the B, ITV and Channel 4 have all invested vast sums of money in technology which enables viewers to watch their favourite shows on their computers. But some critics, including some internet service providers, have warned that the internet will collapse under the strain of millions of people downloading programmes at the same time.Over the next four years, it is thought that the number of s watched over the internet will quadruple, with people moving from short clips to hour-long programmes.Broadband companies claim that the service will cause "traffic jams", which will cost millions of pounds to sort out .But Mr Cerf dismissed the warnings as "scare tactics", saying that critics had predicted 20 years ago that the net would collapse when people all around the world started to use it en masse."In the intervening 30 years it's increased a million times... We're far from exhausting the capacity," he said. "It's an understandable worry when they see huge amounts of information being moved around online."Setting out his vision for the future of the internet, he said he wanted it to reach as many people as possible."I want more internet," he said. "I want every one of the six billion people on the planet to be able to connect to the internet."

以下举一些最常见的例子:第一个为:American English 美语 第二个为:British English 英语 公寓 apartment flat 洗手间 bathroom/restroom toilet 罐头 can tin 糖果 candy sweets 洋芋片 chips crisps 饼干 cookie biscuit 玉米 corn maize 对方付费电话 collect call reverse charge call 婴儿床 crib cot 尿布 diaper nappy 电梯 elevator lift 橡皮擦 eraser rubber 一楼 first floor ground floor 手电筒 flashlight torch 薯条 french fries chips 垃圾桶 garbage can dustbin 汽油 gas, gasoline petrol 果酱 jelly jam 汽车的引擎盖 hood bonnet 生气 mad angry 数学 math maths 餐巾、擦嘴巾 napkin serviette 丝袜 panty-hose, pantihose tights 薯片 potato chips crisp 手提包 purse/pocketbook handbag 足球 soccer football 来回票 roundtrip return 人行道 sidewalk pavement 炉子 stove cooker 毛衣 sweater jersey, jumper 卡车 truck lorry 汽车后面的行李箱 trunk boot 假期 vacation holiday 拼字的差异比较小,以下是一些例子:第一个为:American English 美语 第二个为:British English 英语 考古学 archeology archaeology 目录 catalog catalogue 文明 civilization civilisation 颜色 color colour 马路牙子 curb kerb 抵抗 defense defence 草稿 draft draught 最爱 favorite favourite 荣誉 honor honour 珠宝 jewelry jewllery 组织 organization organisation 练习 practice practise 轮胎 tire tyre /200903/64399。

Be yourself; everyone else is aly taken. — Oscar WildeBeing yourself is celebrating you, as an individual - learning to express yourself and be happy with who you are. For some people, it's learning to love yourself, for others, it's not hiding who you are or changing things about you to fit in. So on to know how to express the inner you.1 Define yourself. You can't be yourself if you don't know, understand, and accept yourself first. It should be your primary goal to find this out. Try to take time to yourself and contemplate your life and choices. Try to think about what kind of things you would or wouldn't like to do, and act accordingly; finding out through trial and error helps more than you might think it does. You can even take personality tests, but be careful to only take what you want from them and not let them define you. Work on accepting mistakes and choices you've made; they're done and in the past, so there is no use crying over spilled milk. /200912/92237。

British men is more loyal to football英国男人:爱足球甚于爱美人English football fans in London. British men show far more loyalty, commitment and self-sacrifice towards their favourite football team than towards their partners, a study showed. British men show far more loyalty, commitment and self-sacrifice towards their favourite football team than towards their partners, a study showed. Some 94 percent said they would never stop loving their team no matter how bad they were while 52 percent would gladly ditch a relationship that was not going well, the survey of approximately 2,000 men across Britain found. Psychologist Aric Sigman said: "If men showed the same fidelity, commitment, self-sacrifice and honesty toward their partners, the divorce rate would halve overnight. "In an age where politicians' loyalties are seen as chameleonic, where jobs and relationships come and go, loyalty is now reserved for something men feel they can actually believe in: football. "Perhaps this undying loyalty for a football team shows how qualities such as integrity and devotion are at a premium nowadays." A quarter of men admitted they would miss a family funeral to watch a game. The research also discovered that 59 percent Englishmen surveyed said football gave them a sense of national pride, while 55 percent of Scotsmen said it gave them a sense of national embarrassment. The study also found that football provided a way for men to show emotion. Nearly two-fifths admitted they had cried tears of joy or despair over football, whilst almost a third said it had been crucial in teaching them to bond with other men. Pollsters TNS Global conducted the research for football World Cup sponsor Duracell. Vocabulary:ditch : to get rid of ;discard (放弃,抛弃;e.g.He has ditched his girlfriend.lt;他抛弃了他的女友。
